My name is Emma and I own Emma’s Humbugs Coffee & Crafts in Sedgley, Dudley.
My dream was to have a cafe that provided a sense of community. A place were everyone felt welcome and safe to he exactly who they are.
Over the past few years Humbugs has exceeded that dream and has become a reality.
On a daily basis people of all ages, genders, physical & mental abilities meet, chat and feel comfortable and welcome. We are rooted in our community. Without us some people would go days without company, warmth and a cooked dinner.
Over the past few years we have become involved with many charity and community projects and provide support wherever we can.
Every week we have a group of adults with additional needs join is to eat and do crafts.
We provide workshops for adults aswell as Free craft supplies for kids.
We have a community book swap.
We grew a potted community vegtable patch.
We support local artists and crafters by displaying and selling their work without taking commission.
We provide hot meals for the local nursary.
We provide a warm space.
The last 18 months have been an up hill battle. Between local construction interrupting business, rises in overheads, having to replace broken equipment and a dispute over the electricity bill we are on our knees.
I have tried to negotiate with the electricity supplier but they won't budge. I've made offers of a payment plan but unless I can give them £4000 by the 29th January 2025 they won't even entertain a repayment plan and will commence legal proceedings to have our power cut off. If I do manage to raise £4000 then I will then have to clear the remaining balance of £10000 with in 12 months. £14000 could give me a blank slate and keep this community cafe open and in the heart of our community where it belongs.
Please help keep Emma’s Humbugs Coffee & Crafts (community cafe) alive.
