New stretch target

£1000 would help towards keeping the training band and main band playing for another year until we can resume our normal performances, and raise more funds.

£3000 would enable the band to continue playing and create an extended funded tuition program.

  • Knighton Town Silver Band is part of a national initiative launched by Brass Bands England to save the many UK brass bands who are struggling to survive through the COVID-19 pandemic. Brass bands are a core of their local community, and many risk disappearing altogether without your help.

Knighton Town Silver Band has missed almost a whole year playing, teaching new students and raising funds to keep us making music.

To enable us to teach the future band members we need donations to help  provide tuition, a venue, equipment and music for all.

The Future

Funding for brass playing in schools in our area has been terminated, we cannot rely on schools or local authorities to prioritise the arts in these challenging times and to fund brass tuition. We believe music making should be available for all. Without local bands teaching local children and adults, the tradition of brass banding will have no future.

To provide a future for our band we need not only short term help to pay our bills and keep the band alive but we need to raise funding to allow us to expand what we offer and provide more tuition in schools and out, at time where music and the arts seem expendable.

Brass banding should not be only for those that can pay, every child that wishes to learn should get the chance without fear of costs. KTSB wants to encourage donations so we can develop an opportunity for funded tuition. Students would be supported through the learning process by having band membership,  attending group training band rehearsal where they would be provided with the basics to get them started and filled with enthusiasm and knowledge that one day they can pass on to their next generations.

Our main band needs new players constantly to ensure its survival. With tuition in schools at an all time low, our training band numbers have been falling  with only a few training making it through training to play with the main band members, with your support we aim to change this.

Our Goals

- Future proof the main band

- Fully fund tuition in and out of schools in our area

- Provide instruments for all to learn and progress

- Ensure the band can continue making music for our community into the future

Why are we crowdfunding?

Our brass band risks closure because no new players are coming from our schools, and all our fund raising opportunities this last year have been cancelled due to Covid -19.

Your donations will be used to future proof the band and allow us to create a funded system of tuition and instrument provision to give all those that wish to learn music, the chance, and ensure they have a banding family to join once they have started on their musical journey.

About Knighton Town Silver Band

KTSB is a welcoming band that is based in the Town of Knighton, nestled on the border of Wales. A small community with strong traditions the band is at the heart of the town.

KTSB tries hard to create a relaxed welcoming and positive setting for all to come along and make music. Enjoyment is essential for success.

We encourage people of all ages and musical abilities to come to Knighton, to learn together, to play music of all varieties, to our friends and communities.

Our annual performance schedule is normally filled with summer fetes and carnivals through to winter carols and concerts.

Brass banding in Wales has a long history, and we want this to continue.

About Save Our Brass Bands

Brass bands exist in every corner of the UK, with over 30,000 people of all ages and standards taking part in weekly activity – rehearsing, performing and providing entertainment for their local community.

But we risk losing this forever.

Brass Bands saw their main source of income disappear in an instant when they ceased being able to perform in March in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Months later, we still don’t know when normal performances will be able to take place. A significant loss in income over the Summer months, paired with necessary expenditure needed to make rehearsal spaces Covid compliant means that many Brass Bands are in a perilous financial situation.

Without urgent support, we could lose our nation’s amazing Brass Bands. Please help us to make sure they survive this crisis and will be there to be enjoyed by future generations.

Please donate, share this page widely and do what you can to help us to make sure our Brass Bands survive this crisis.
