To keep Heath Lodge in local hands with local purpose. The grounds benefitting the community as open matinee, cafe and safe well-being space

by Sophia Panchoo-Cohen in London, Greater London, United Kingdom

I have years of property management and maintenance experience and am at a stage in life that I have the time, energy and network to invest in realising my vision to have a thriving community space in Grangewood Park at Heath Lodge grounds. My team consists of local: surveyor, apprentice surveyor, qualified health and wellness therapists, teachers, accountant, radio station, writer/poet, ex-nurses and several young people.

Heath Lodge requires a complete renovation following 20 years of neglect by Croydon Council. The building is affected by substantial cracking and will need major investment to stabilise and restore. The money raised will be used primarily for the renovation of the building, to provide an extension for a cafe and community rooms.  And to landscape the grounds so that the garden area can be used for seating in connection with the cafe and a family matinee open screening area on weekends. The aim is to provide a thriving community space that makes Grangewood more attractive and beneficial to the local community. A space for everyone to enjoy.  Residents, families, visitors. A facility with community rooms that can be multi-purposed in use and used as wellbeing spaces serving Cancer Patients more locally and in a beautiful environment than the Hospital and Cancer facility all the way in Purley.  Thornton Heath needs something nice for its residents that is not exclusive and adds value to the area. Coming out of Covid-19 this project will help those who have experienced isolation and loneliness and will be a place to meet people and positively re-engage in our community. Let's change the scenery ourselves and put and end to the legacy of waste and exploitation by private developers and Council lead deals.  Let's shape a new Thornton Heath leisure facility for ourselves and by ourselves. Keep Heath Lodge for locals!
