KCL Tennis wants to raise money to provide financial support to local care homes during this pandemic

by Benjamin Zuckerman in London, England, United Kingdom

We're still collecting donations

On the 4th June 2020 we'd raised £500 with 33 supporters in 38 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.

 New stretch target

All money raised will be given to one (or more) care homes. The more money we raise the more homes we can support. These may not have access to the necessary supplies to keep their residents safe.

Hi everyone,

Each year King's College London's (KCL) tennis club has raised money for a chosen charity. This year I was the President of the society and running the charity tournament was going to be one of the highlights of my year. However, due to COVID-19 our charity tournament was cancelled. In light of this the club would like to raise, as large a sum as possible, to help the community remain safe during this pandemic. The money raised will be for care homes that look after one of the most vulnerable populations in the community and individuals we need to keep safe.

How we want to raise the money?

We will be attempting the tennis "keepie-uppie" challenge, perfectly demonstrated by Rafael Nadal: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qgvdDZ7o9Ng

Our goal, as a collective, is to reach a minimum of 1000 keepy-uppies using the frame of the racquet (much harder than it sounds). It does not matter what number you get, the aim is to involve as many people as possible and accumulate a total of 1000 keepy-uppies. Each person who attempts this challenge will donate a minimum of £5 and will be included in the video compilation showcasing the progress.

We will collect video evidence from each participant to make sure everything is legitimate. There is no limit to how many times you can attempt the challenge; however, the rule is only your first take can be included in the compilation. If you want to submit more entries you will need to donate a further £5 for each entry and record your attempt on a different day.

Who we are raising money for?

Currently, we do not have a specific care home that we are supporting. We are in contact with a clinical commissioner and in the process of deciding on how to allocate the money raised. The page will be updated accordingly once that decision has been made.

ONE FINAL POINT:

Anyone can be included in this video, it is NOT exclusively KCL Tennis. We would love it if as many people as possible pick up their racquets to support the community during this difficult period. However, if you do not have a racquet we welcome any and all improvisation (if you do not have a ball either I am sure there is a way you can take part, maybe loo roll?)!

Keep safe and well. Please stay at home.

Best wishes,
