"We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give" Winston Churchill
My son, Kai Jones, has been given a place at ArtsEd performing arts school from September 2020. We applied to the school as there aren’t many performing arts schools offering the course he wants to pursue, without having to pay, close to home. We applied to the Brits School (non-paying) and didn’t receive a place, due to the distance from the school.
Kai is a natural talent, in all performing arts mediums and has been attending Stagecoach since the age of 4 and has thus far completed his Silver LAMDA certificate with distinction in Drama, and will do his gold later this year. He is a member of the National Youth Theatre, which he received on his first attempt. Performing arts has helped Kai cope with his depression, anxiety and OCD, which he was diagnosed with after being badly bullied at his old school. The fact that he has been accepted at ArtsEd out of over a 1000 applicants for 100 spaces, proves that this is his future profession.
The reason I am raising the funds is because I’m a single, self-employed parent, currently with COVID only working between 1 and 2 days a week. Any future work is dependent on available work after companies return after sorting the aftermath of this pandemic. The money I receive covers a reduced rent during this time and living expenses. I have no savings as I’ve used this during the time I wasn’t working. In addition, the charities and foundations have suspended funding for this year due to COVID.
My unfortunate circumstances shouldn’t prevent Kai from achieving his dreams, hence me doing whatever I can to pay for his fees. The tuition fee for the year is about £17500. Any contribution you can make, will be appreciated. If any of you have the means to sponsor Kai, we will keep you posted on his progress throughout the year and if you like, can attend his performances. He will also wear your t-shirt during his performances and acknowledge your contribution publicly. There are a number of students at ArtsEd in a similar position so whatever funds are raised over and above Kai’s needs, will fund these other students.
Please share if you are unable to contribute. Thank you all for your generosity and time.
