Who are we?
We are JuncYard, a community group of likeminded residents, young people, parents and business people who came together in 2023 to replace our old skatepark with a concrete wheel-sports venue.
The wheel-sport enthusiasts named the group JuncYard, formerly called The Victoria Skatepark Project Group. The name broken down from Junc which is short for Junction, as the town is Llandudno Junction, then Yard because Llandudno Junction was once one of the UK's largest goods yards with a rich railway history.
We have recently been awarded a grant from the UK Prosperity Fund which has paid for a feasibility study and community engagement carried out by the renowned skatepark designers Curve Studio Ltd who will present their findings in November 2024.
The group is hopefully going to become a Community Interest Company (CIC), after which we will go to the Conwy County Council for a lease on the land required for the development. For all this to happen we need your help.

Why are we crowdfunding?
We are crowdfunding to raise money that we can use as Mach funding towards prospective grants which will all go towards the construction of our wheel-sports venue which will cost in the region of £500,000.00.
The grants we have identified are the National Lottery in Wales People and Places Large Grant, and the Community and Voluntary Support Conwy (CVSC) Large Grant. If successful these two funders should cover most of the venue cost, but the more we can crowdfund the less we need to rely on them.

How we’ll spend the money raised
The money raised will be spent alongside the grant money to construct the wheel-sports venue which will be wheelchair friendly. We have consulted with local WCMX, or Wheelchair Motocross users to further improve the design shown above and below. Pictures of the final design are not available at this time, but will be added soon.
We also propose tree and shrub planting in the area of the wheel-sports venue and the adjoining children's playground.

Community impact
We have employed Curve Studio Ltd to undertake a professional community engagement and feasibility study. Three community engagement events have gathered the thoughts and ideas from a wide range of residents, from the very young to our retired community. Local community groups have given their input, along with a wide range of prospective users from the disabilities community.
The wheel-sports venue will replace a 25 year old skatepark which isn't used by local wheelers because they explain that it's "outdated and dangerous". The new venue will give a modern and clean look to one corner of the Victoria Park. Sitting alongside the children’s playground.
JuncYard will be leasing the land from the local authority, so we will have full responsibility for its upkeep. We feel that we can run the venue better and this will have a positive impact on the wider community, drawing in wheelers from far and wide, as well as providing a safe space for local children and young people, drawing them away from the danger of main roads, dimly lit streets, and carparks.
The findings of the community study and feasibility study will be outlined here after the publication.
