Aim: To get more children’s books to hospitals, hospitals and to those affected by childhood cancer and grief
Jude and the Book Factory was the imaginative idea of Jude. Jude started the Book Factory when he was 4 years old and his idea was simple; to get books to children. He started hiding his own books for other children to find.
Jude was a bright and fun-loving child, with a passion for dinosaurs and animals. Jude was diagnosed with High Risk Neuroblastoma, a type of cancer, the day before his third birthday. Jude died in September 2023, aged 5.
Jude never lost his cheeky sense of humour, and his love for life was contagious. He was a fan of Elton John and developed a love for dancing, theatre and became a real bookworm. Some of our fondest memories of Jude were when we were immersed between the pages of a book. Books were a great escape for Jude and us, his parents.
We have donated over 4000 brand new books to Sheffield Children’s Hospital, Bluebell Wood Hospice, Young Lives vs Cancer, PACT (Parents Association of Children with Tumours and Leukaemia) and Henry Dancer Days in Sheffield, Candlelighters and The Paediatric and Teenage & Young Adult Radiotherapy Team in Leeds and Solving Kids’ Cancer UK.
At Jude and the Book Factory, we believe that every child deserves access to a world of stories and knowledge. Children and young people can use books to escape, feel empowered, gain understanding, be distracted or to be inspired and we aim to get the books they need and want to them!
