My son Joshua who is 6 years old has been watching the news and what is currently going on in the world. He has got quite concerned that nurses are getting sick and he says he wanted to help. So after explaining what PPE Joshua wanted to make some.
So after a little research we found you can use a 3d printer to produce the face shields. So out of Joshua’s own money we purchased him a printer. First was a cheap Chinese one, this was rubbish and dangerous so got returned. We then ordered a brand name printer, good make but unfortunately faulty. Then finally 3rd time lucky we have a working printer.
So far the cost of the printer and all materials have come out of Joshua’s savings as he wanted to use his money to help nurses!
We can make around 6 face shields a day. If the demand is there and we can get the funding to make more we can look at increasing the daily volume. It’s not a large amount but every little helps. We plan to donate this to people in the local area Burton on Trent who work for the NHS or care homes and need them.
We are not charging for them but are asking for donations to make the next batch up. Each mask costs around £4 to £5 to make, not got an exact price until we run out of materials
These masks are re usable and can be easily cleaned in hot soapy water.
We should have our first ones ready start of next week, just waiting on the clear plastic to arrive for the face shield. Picture shows what we have made so far, the profile picture is how the finished items will look apart from the colour.
