Hello,
I’m Joshua, I'm 15 years old and I live in Somerset.
I’m trying to raise money, for an incredible once in a lifetime opportunity - a 4-week expedition to Costa Rica organised by Camps International (www.campsinternational.com)
During this expedition in Costa Rica, I will be working alongside and directly helping the local community, during my stay.
I will be involved in conservation projects in one of the most biodiverse rainforests on the planet. I will learn about innovative and sustainable solutions to environmental issues and get involved with inspiring projects to help the environment, wildlife, and community.
All Camp International projects are sustainable projects that are each aligned to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Did you know….’Though Costa Rica accounts for only 0.03% of the Earth’s surface, it holds 6% of the world’s biodiversity—however, it’s under threat from human activity. Work here will support conservation efforts such as reforestation, beehive construction, and lime-washing trees, as well as projects to encourage eco-tourism in the area.’ – (Quoted from Camps International website).
Some of the environmental work I will be involved in is:
During this expedition some of the work I will be carrying out will include:
- Conservation work, including protecting turtles and their ecosystem.
- Planting trees.
- Visiting and building schools.
- Building and refurbishing community buildings.
- Beach clean ups.
-Building important facilities such as toilets and water systems for the local community.
During my trip I will be fully emersed into the Costa Rican culture. This will include eating local cuisine and learning the languages as well as teaching some English to the locals too.
During this trip I am also being given the amazing opportunity to get my PADI open water diving license. This would just be incredible and something I would really love to do.
Please donate whatever you can, no matter how small, every little helps to make a big difference. In the meantime, I'm going to raise as much as I can myself, by working my weekend job, baby-sitting, helping friends and family for pocket money and any odd bits I can do to earn some money.
Thank you for reading,
Joshua.
