“Withycombe Rugby Club is a traditional community based sports club, starting in 1924 with one men’s team and now hosting 13 successful teams of all ages, genders and abilities, as well as a clubhouse which serves the community by hosting events from playgroups to zumba, and everything in between.

As a victim of our own success, we have outgrown the facilities at the club and currently have a short-term agreement to use rugby pitches at Bicton College, however this is far from ideal in that the changing facilities are well below standard and we also find that teams rarely return to the Club after matches, which seriously affects the ability for the wider club community (families, friends and other members) to make full use of the club as a social venue meaning that our takings from food and drinks are limited, which is our main source of revenue to run the Club. Our present problems are further compounded by our inadequate provision of changing facilities for referees as the match officials currently have no separate shower and access to the pitch is via the players changing rooms which is completely unsatisfactory particularly during junior and female games.

We are fundraising so that by our centurion year, 2024, we will have changing facilities capable of a) accommodating all teams and supporting staff and b) that meet current safeguarding guidelines.”
