I have been accepted onto a Youth With a Mission project in New Zealand, Marine Reach, for five months between January and June 2025. I will spend 11 weeks taking part in a Discipleship Training School, where I hope to deepen my theological knowledge and understanding, and go deeper in my faith and journey with Jesus. Within this time I will also be taught basic medical skills, in order to take part in YWAM's Compassion Stream. This will involve the rest of my time going to an established Marine Reach project in the developing world, supporting community medical provision, education and supporting promotion of justice and compassion to those in need of support.
I knew I wanted to do something in my gap year year that would stretch me and take me out of my comfort zone. I'm naturally quite an introverted person, I don't have much experience of travel and my Christian life has been, to be honest, quite 'comfortable'. I've grown up in a Christian family and surrounded by a church family who have known and supported me since I was very small. I recognise the privilege this has given me. When this opportunity came up, I knew it sounded perfect for me, but had to consider it carefully, as I knew I wouldn't find it easy. I am anxious about securing the funding, as my family aren't in a position to meet the costs, but I firmly believe that if God wants me to do this (which I believe he does!), then he will make a way.
I've got a few fundraising plans already, for which this page will be the "platform". One thing I'm going to do is a sponsored walk form Bath to Bradford-on-Avon and back along the canal tow path. It's about 20 miles and I'm planning on doing this in the Autumn of 2024. I'm not a naturally active person so this will be a real challenge for me! Your support and sponsorship would really inspire me on the day to keep going.
