My Story:
Having completed the 100km Ultra walk challenge for the past 2 years, I was not intending on signing up in 2025, right up until this years Aviva charity was announced!
Parkinson's is close to my heart right now as my Uncle Ken sadly passed away on 5th December 2024, having lived with Parkinson's for several years.
Having previously raised money for Alzheimer's last year, another cause with close family connections, it did not feel right going back to people for more sponsorship money for the same thing, and so I have decided to make it 'more of a challenge' for myself this year by attempting to run (25km) and walk (75km) the course this time round. This should also enable me to complete the challenge in under 24 hours, having taken 28.5 hours last year and a marathon 36 hours back in 2023 (Lake district).
Please see below for the group information for this challenge ...
We are excited to announce that in June 2025, our Aviva Claims Supply Chain team will be taking on the Peak District Ultra Challenge to raise funds for Parkinson's UK. This incredible journey will see us navigating the stunning yet demanding terrain of the Peak District, all in support of an amazing Charity. This year we are a Team of 25 people.
Our Challenge:
The Peak District Ultra Challenge is no small feat. It will test our endurance, strength, teamwork and determination as we cover a significant distance across one of the UK's most beautiful national parks. Participants can choose from various distances, including 25km, 50km, 75km, and the full continuous 100km, each with its own set of challenges and elevations. The full 100km route features a tough and varied figure-of-eight course through Derbyshire’s finest scenery, with a total climb of 2150m.
The Challenge is open to participants to walk, jog, or run the course, making it as inclusive as possible, and accessible to a wider range of fitness levels and preferences.
Parkinson's UK.
Parkinson's is a progressive neurological condition. In the UK, around 153,000 people are currently living with Parkinson's disease. This number is expected to increase to approximately 172,000 by 2030 due to population growth and ageing. Every hour, two more people are diagnosed with Parkinson's. It can have a profound impact on the lives of those diagnosed, as well as their families and friends. Parkinson's UK is dedicated to improving the quality of life for those affected by the condition through research, support, and advocacy. This cause is particularly poignant because two members of Team, including our Team captain, Nick Mayhew and 100km veteran Jason Bates recently lost a close family member who had been living with Parkinson's for several years.
