We lost Jackie suddenly on the 25th of April 25, and as a family we want to raise money in her name to better equip the family room in A&E.

On the 25th of April 2025, we sadly lost Jackie very suddenly due to an undiagnosed brain aneurysm, which caused a subarachnoid haemorrhage.

Paramedics and medical teams from St John’s Hospital in Livingston worked tirelessly to keep Jackie with us, but sadly the bleed was not survivable. Jackie passed away peacefully with Alan, Kirsty and her sister-in-law, Gwen, by her side.

She was so loved by so many, and as a family, we would like to ensure that her death means something for those who will inevitably follow behind us.

The paramedics and medical teams who cared for Jackie did absolutely everything they possibly could and treated her with huge amounts of dignity, care, and respect. They also supported us as a family to the best of their ability.

In light of this, we would like to help in any way we can to support families who may, sadly, find themselves in the same position we were.

The family room we were placed in within A&E wasn’t very comfortable. We didn’t have access to proper seating, and the room itself was very basic with little to no comfort. We want to be clear that this is not a criticism of the hospital, its medical teams, or the NHS. We understand that resources are limited and that there isn’t always funding available for luxuries.

However, as a family, we would like to raise money to help make this area more comfortable for others experiencing what may be the most traumatic moments of their lives. We hope to help provide comfortable and appropriate seating, improved drinking facilities, and any other thoughtful amenities that people may suggest to make the space more supportive for those who will need it.

We don’t have a fancy name or a registered charity set up in Jackie’s name. We are simply a grieving family who has lost a wonderful wife, daughter and mother. If losing her can ease the discomfort of others in the future, then that’s the legacy we want her to leave behind, and so we have simply gone with Jackie’s Memorial Fund.

For those who knew Jackie, she was a kind, warm woman who helped anyone who asked. There is no obligation to donate—we understand that times are tough—but if you can help by sharing the link and spreading awareness, we would be extremely grateful.

Jackie’s funeral will be held on the 15th of May at West Lothian Crematorium, where we will also be accepting donations towards this cause.

With love,

Alan & Kirsty
