Jack Berry Fijian Foundation

RCN 1176584,

TO ADVANCE THE EDUCATION OF YOUNG CHILDREN IN NAQIA, FIJI PARTICULARLY BUT NOT EXCLUSIVELY, BY THE BUILDING OF A PRE-SCHOOL AND THE PROVISION OF RELEVANT EDUCATIONAL GOODS, EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS FOR THE SCHOOL AND FOR THE CHILDREN ATTENDING THE SCHOOL AND THE FUNDING OF THE RELEVANT TEACHING STAFF.

The Jack Berry Fijian Foundation was founded in January 2018 following the tragic death of Jack Berry (aged 26).

On the 28th October 2017 Jack was out training for a triathlon with a couple of friends, when Jack was hit from behind when a taxi driver fell asleep at the wheel, and Jack was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jack’s wife is half Fijian and before getting married they had visited her family home in Naqia.  Jack immediately fell in love with the people and village life, but in particular with the village children.

Jack having served in the British Army, had recently started work as a head chef and was looking forward to starting up his own restaurant. Following his untimely death his father immediately decided to use the money he had saved for the restaurant to build a kindergarten in the village of Naqia and create a lasting legacy for Jack, and allow Jack’s wonderful spirit to continue helping others in a place that had become so special to him.

Following a number of fundraising challenges completed by family and friends,  the Jack Berry Memorial Kindergarten was officially opened in August 2018 by the Fijian Prime Minister. JBFF continues to support the Kindergarten by purchasing uniforms for each intake, funding teachers salaries and providing equipment on an ad hoc basis as required.

In October 2021 JBFF completed its second major project having funded the construction of a dual classroom  Learning Centre at Naqia Primary School which consists of a new School Library and a Computer room with 20 computers. Every single child who attends the Kindergarten, every single child who learns something new in the library or sitting at one of the workstations in the Computer Lab, will ensure that Jack’s spirit lives on, and that his light continues to shine.

The Computer room will not only help to further the education of the children who have attended the Kindergarten but we are also hoping that this new Learning Centre will provide , and encourage everyone  ( both the young and old) to become more digitally aware and learn new skills, leading to greater opportunities and a more prosperous future for Naqia.

Every single penny raised by JBFF for it’s work in Naqia goes directly to the village of Naqia.

We are a non -profit and non-cost charity and are blessed that the village of Naqia has allowed us to create such a wonderful legacy for Jack in their village.
