Ivybridge Community College’s Girls Science Club is once again delighted to be taking part in the Greenpower Electric Vehicles Challenge.
This is a national competition, organised through the UK charity Greenpower Education Trust. The Trust inspires young people around the world to excel in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) through a unique challenge:
Our Story
In 2022 – Ivybridge Community College Girl’s Science Club designed, built and eventually raced their first electric car at a regional Greenpower Race. They competed regionally and surpassed all expectations gaining them a place in the nationals. The students built their race car throughout the term time, helped by teachers who nurture their engineering interests. Parents and siblings are encouraged to attend races to cheer on competitors and support their interests in engineering careers.
The project is a brilliant initiative that provides the next generation of engineers an opportunity to learn practical engineering skills teaching young people how to work as part of a team and giving them real-world experience in software development, electronics and mechanical engineering.
2023
The girls are now in the F24+ category. They have a new design for a custom built racing car but require the funds to buy the components needed to build the custom car, update safety gear and to pay for race day expenses including travel to the races.
The money raised will continue to support the project for years to come so many year groups can benefit from the Racing Car Club.
Many of these girls are aiming for future careers in engineering, it would be wonderful to show our support and encouragement to these inspiring girls.
