Join Us On Our Love Story
Having liked each other for the past five years but never daring to admit it, Grace and Michael finally face their feelings during a fraught evening in Michael's Airbnb. As they attempt to decide whether to pursue a romantic relationship, fantasy fades and reality hits.
Who Are We?
The 'It Almost Happened One Night' team comprises six core creatives. At the helm is our Writer-Director, Millie Mason. Next on board was our producer from Cat on the Wall Productions, Charlie Clarke, and now we're thrilled to have Lily Blazek as our Barcelona-based Producer. Our DOP, Henri Hardman, is also among the team alongside Fern-Louise Sutton and Seán Doyle, two incredible actors who we know will create magic onscreen.
So What's The Film All About?
Our little love story is dedicated to all the doomed love stories that never got to be and the brokenhearted lovers in them.
As chaotic as it may seem, modern dating is about the need to feel connected. It matters to us that we can explore what love looks like in a real, raw, and honest light today. Our film will artistically push the norms of romance dramas and what romance dramas can "look" like.
Maybe we're all just a bunch of hopeless romantics, but we believe there's more to be explored in why love doesn't work than why it does. Is love enough? And if not, why not?
While love is an age-old enigma, funding a film is not: it needs money (sadly). And while we've managed to raise over £1000, we need a final push to help us get the equipment we need among other costs!
What We Need & What You Get
Love is all about give and take, so why £2,000, and what do you get?
The reality is quite simple: while we wanted to pay people for their time and skills, we weren't able to reach our original £16,000 goal. Luckily our wonderful cast and creative team love this project and are throwing themselves into it regardless!
But this doesn't mean we can make this film for free, so we really do need one final push to get us shooting in April! With your donations, we can reach our goal of fully producing this film!
Unlike our last fundraiser, we haven't included The Wolfpack Project into this new budget as we must ensure we have enough money to shoot our film. But we don't want to stop spreading the love, so after giving 10% of our funds to the charity from our initial fundraiser, should we raise over £2000 we will continue our commitment to this amazing charity by giving 5% of what we raise over that £2000 threshold.
What's a Film About Love Going To Do?
For our Writer-Director, it was always about exploring the complexities of love and offering audiences a fresh take on how a little bit of love can be as impactful as years-long relationships. In modern dating, there can be real loneliness, where the love that wasn't "official" is never grieved for. We want to console people in these "failed" romances, inspire them to take the risks love offers and give our support to those leaving love behind.
On a personal level, our short film could open doors for the brilliant artists behind its conception and execution. It allows these artists to showcase their talent on and off the screen in ways that wouldn't be possible without your help.
With a brilliant production team and new up-and-coming talent, we're excited to turn this project into a reality.
Our Three Biggest Challenges
1. Cost of Accommodation and Travel
No matter where we decided to shoot, costs of travel and accommodation were always going to be a challenge. It is particularly important that we can cover these costs for our team now that everyone is doing this project unpaid. While we're grateful to have such a dedicated team of creatives, we cannot allow them to suffer financially just to make this film a reality.
To help our financial strains, our core creative team is taking on multiple roles to help lessen the financial burden.
2. A Lack of Corporate Sponsorship
We still dream big in this team and we would like to raise above and beyond £2000 to be able to pay our cast and crew what they deserve. However, a character-driven film about two 20-somethings, trying to understand their feelings, loneliness, and desires is only sometimes an attractive storyline for corporate sponsors.
However, we're just a film, standing in front of a sponsor, asking them to love us... So we continue to have faith!
3. Not Reaching Our Full Goal
We've proven just how adaptable we can be in a financial crunch and while our wonderful cast and crew are now committed this project because they love it, that can only get us so far. Unfortunately, renting equipment or covering accommodation costs won't be so generous.
However, where there is a will there is a way and we will continue to adapt regardless, but this could mean major shooting setbacks should we not reach this £2000 goal.
