Who Are We?
We are super excited to bring Inner Child(ish) to Edinburgh Fringe 2025 and need your help. Our show is designed as a fully relaxed performance making theatre accessible for all neurodivergent audiences and making them the priority for the whole run. Narin Özenci shares her experiences of being autistic through fictitious story telling, exploring her shadow and embracing her inner child on the mission to embrace her authentic self.
About Narin Özenci
Narin Özenci is an actress, writer and comedian diagnosed with autism during university. It was only recently after many years later did she realise it was time to stop masking. She is known to play off the wall surreal deadpan characters and her major industry credits are BBC1 Man Like Mobeen, Ch4 Girls Go Trolling (co star and writer) and the movie Hooligan Legacy. Her first ever Edinburgh Festival show was Narin Oz: Addicted To Love where she performed inside and on her car. Her show appeared on BBC 2 Edinburgh Nights and she was interviewed by comedian Mark Watson.
About Inner Child(ish)
Narin Özenci’s alter ego Narin Oz is not good at real life. Simple things that neurotypical people are great at: Being indirect, insensitive to stimuli, compulsively socialising and talking without purpose. To fix the problem she avoids reality altogether, by staying at home alone. Hiding away from everybody, inside her imagination to process life. Isn’t this what everyone does in their 40’s? Since she doesn’t know, "how to human" anyway she is now the grim reaper. Unluckily her now only companion and frenemy is an inflatable sh•& emoji that calls itself Dr Fecal Matter. Think Wilson ball from the movie Cast Away but a budget version. The only way out away is to face her inner child.
The show offers a unique perspective on neurodivergence blending humour and personal storytelling.
The heart of the story is to embrace and love your authentic self including your messy side however you brain in life. For this reason Inner Child(ish) will be fully relaxed for the whole run allowing the audience to move stim and interact freely without the fear of judgement. Narin Oz: Inner Child(ish) is to be enjoyed by all types of brains.
This interactive show uses clowning to reveal the performer’s vulnerability and share their humanity on stage to connect with the audience. By connecting through storytelling we can heal and unite everyone through laughter.
This project was first showcased at The Lambeth Fringe 2024 and has touched the hearts of many audience members including the neurodivergent community who felt seen and accepted by experiencing this show’s themes and its relaxed nature. It has been workshopped and rewritten throughout the year, has piqued the interest of Soho Theatre in London and PR agents.
