India Direct is a small charity funding projects which are designed and run by our local partners in Tamil Nadu, India. We support children and families in rural India with groceries, clothing, access to basic health care and, most importantly, with education. We also support widows and elderly and vulnerable people within the community. Over the last 25 years we have funded the care of over 450 children in two exemplary children's homes, but due to the global pandemic we are currently supporting whole families within their communities. We want our children to not just survive, but to thrive. We believe education is the key to changing lives, which is why many of the children in our care have been funded through to degree level. These scholarships give them hope, and they study hard to seize the opportunity given to them.
One of our girls grew up in the security of Joy Home having been orphaned by the Boxing Day Tsunami in 2004. She gained an honours degree in Physics aged just 19. She came back every week to the Home where she grew up, to tutor the younger children in Maths and Science after school. She then went on to become a radiographer and to make a truly valuable contribution to her community.
The Funding these scholarships has become more difficult as the cost of basic care and support has increased. Yet these opportunities are what permanently change lives.
We are all volunteers, and our small administration costs are funded by a small part of our GiftAid claims. 100% of any donation goes to these projects. Every penny, directly changing lives.
