iichild is a registered charity that is committed to provide a safe and supportive environment through activities and food for under-fives and holiday Camps for children and young adults (5 to 19 years old). Our work is situated on various estates in and around the Camberwell area (South London). Our purpose is to see young people thrive and grow by developing their creative talent and sense of purpose. The 3 key outcomes iichild wish to achieve - · To build self-esteem · To provide opportunities for personal development and growth, and · To create opportunities for voluntary working so that users can positively contribute towards their community and working lives.

iiChild began life as a community group in Camberwell, South London, founded by Elaine Joseph, a concerned youth worker. Elaine saw young people wondering about the local estates with nothing to do during school holidays. A lack of out of school provision appeared to contribute towards the risk of exposure to gang-related activities.  In 2010, Elaine reached out to the young people and parents with a survey to better understand their local challenges and to identify their need which were as follows:

  • a safe place to meet
  • somewhere for younger siblings
  • meaningful activities and work placements.

By 2011, iiChild was one of a few community groups to offer a full-day holiday camp to low-income families with children and young people, serving breakfast, lunch and organising activities and outings.

In 2014, iiChild became a charity. By 2018, iiChild added a parent and toddler’s group to its portfolio to provide a social meeting point and a hot meal for parents/carers and their children. iiChild continues to look for opportunities to meet local increased demand for affordable low-cost provision for the under 5s and we think we are in a great position to develop and grow in this space.
