New stretch target
The extra money will enable us to reach more households in the borough and help to re-distribute the seedlings equitably to those who most need some extra highly nutritious food at this time.
There's no time to lose - this is the growing season and the team at Incredible Edible Lambeth is on a mission to get many more people growing food for our communities right now. The C-19 crisis has revealed a necessity for more food to be available to all.
How will we do it? We want to encourage 100 households across the borough to grow vegetables from seed and are providing starter packs of compost, trays, pots and seeds. These households will then share their seedlings with a further 10 households each (which means we will have 1,000 households growing food - equivalent to 20 tonnes of food - or 100x200g veg servings per household!), preferably with people who really need the extra food. We will deliver the boxes to volunteers' doors and will help re-distribute the seedlings through a network of supporters.
We have successfully demonstrated that this model works by trialing a pilot scheme of 25 households, who are now sharing seedlings with their neighbours. This pilot scheme was entirely funded by donations.
Now we want to quadruple our offer, so are asking for immediate funding to purchase the materials we need - boxes to transport, trays, pots, compost and seeds.
