The Ickle Pickles Children's Charity
The Ickle Pickles Children's Charity aims to give every newborn a chance. We do this through the provision of new and much needed equipment for Neonatal Units and the training of Neonatal nursing staff. Small Babies : Big Difference

0There are over 100,000 babies born sick or prematurely in the UK every year – that’s 1 in 8 – and of these, many require Intensive or Special care in a neonatal unit (NNU) – we call these babies Ickle Pickles. An Ickle Pickle can be a full term baby requiring treatment; surgery or more likely a baby born prematurely (before 37 weeks). Babies born before 27 weeks are classed as extremely premature and it is these tiniest babies who need the most help. Since 2009, the Ickle Pickles Children’s Charity has been raising money for the intensive care equipment that treats these babies and keeps them alive. Ickle Pickles is the only charity that aims to help hospitals raise money to buy essential equipment for premature babies nationally.
New mums are often shocked that they have gone into premature labour and suddenly have a tiny, poorly baby being treated in an Incubator in a neonatal intensive care unit.
The array of equipment monitoring their baby is daunting, especially in the first few days. Alarms are constantly chiming, lights are flashing on the monitors, the babies are covered in wires and tubes and the atmosphere is muted but this is the best possible place for them in these early yet critical days.
Our Vision:
The Ickle Pickles offers a unique opportunity to help vulnerable babies at a crucial time in their lives. Our long-term plan is to become the charity partner for 150 neonatal units and to donate vital equipment to every neonatal unit in England & Wales.
Our Mission:
We strive to give every newborn a chance by working nationally whilst delivering tangible benefit for local parents, neonatal units and communities.
However, we can't do this alone!
Parents, grandparents, families and friends of babies treated in neonatal units often want to give something back for the care their loved ones received. Parents who had term, healthy babies frequently offer support despite not needing these facilities, but don't know how to help.
Making a small but regular, monthly donation or donating Nectar Points can all make a huge difference to small babies.
