OUR VISION

IS A WORLD IN WHICH EVERY YOUNG PERSON CAN EXPERIENCE THE CREATIVITY AND EXHILARATION OF LIVE THEATRE

OUR FOUNDER AND CEO

I4YPC was founded in April 2019 by ex-offender Micky Dacks, who was permanently excluded from education at 13 and ended up in the school-to-prison pipeline.

Since leaving prison, Micky has worked tirelessly to reduce the number of young people being permanently excluded from education, whilst also addressing the core reasons for the upward trajectory in numbers.

“I never intended to be a youth worker.  It was one of those ‘it found me’ situations.  I’d started writing poems in prison and when I was released, a probation officer helped me find my way by finding me a permanent housing solution and taking time out to encourage and inspire me to pursue writing and expressing myself.

In 2014, I acquired my Masters degree and with this newfound academic knowledge,  I was able to research the true extent of the problem of school exclusions, which is endemic in our system.

That was why I decided that I needed to bring my musical, ‘Innit’, back to life!

That's why I founded I4YPC – so that I could bring a team together who could help me develop ‘Innit’ and a whole new curriculum that can and will reach as many young people as is humanly possible.”

OUR GOAL:

Our goal is to get to the heart of and tackle the onset of youth violence and criminal exploitation, head-on, by bringing our nationally recognised theatre production, ‘Innit Musical’, back into the public realm.

We're also developing and delivering an associated workshop and curriculum experience, that has been co-designed and created with young people, to reach as many young people aged 12 – 16, in England as possible.

‘Innit’ is a relatable, cultural and diversionary activity; specifically written by Micky, who shares his story with an audience that is most at-risk of exclusion and that educationalists and theatres are continually struggling to engage.

We’re going to make the live theatre experience FREE for young people to attend, no matter their financial circumstances.

'Innit Musical' returns to The Lowry in September '23

WE ARE:

  • Influencing young people to participate in society and lead pro-social lives
  • Discouraging young people from committing crime, especially knife-related crimes
  • Encouraging young people to engage in their Secondary, Higher and Further education
  • Advancing young people towards achieving long-term goals

OUR VISION OF SUCCESS:

I4YPC believes that through campaigning, training and education and by reaching our target audiences of young people through theatres and youth and educational settings nationwide, we can break the negative cycle of exclusion – which will enable those affected to feel a sense of self-worth and be dissuaded from entering into the Criminal Justice System.
