Who Are We?
We are a team of passionate and dedicated artists based in Scotland bringing our queer, nerdy comedy to the Edinburgh Fringe 2025. 'I Kissed Batman' will be performing 31st July-11th August at Just The Fancy Room @ Just the Tonic.
Created by Lex Joyce returning to the Fringe after two 5-star runs in 2024 with ‘Take Me To Your Leader’ and ‘Tartan Tat’. Once again teaming up with Edinburgh comedy-theatre company Shark Bait Theatre, recently shortlisted for Company of the Year at the Scottish Emerging Theatre Awards. Shark Bait is a wee indie theatre collective with a mission to open serious conversations about the human condition through humour and entertainment.
Douglas Yannaghas is an actor and writer from the Highlands, based in Glasgow. He graduated with a BA in Acting from The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2022. He is a Co-Founder of Cold Open Theatre, and was the writer of their debut show 27. Most recently he performed as Allan Cameron in BBC Sounds production The Pretender Prince, a dramatisation of the Jacobite rebellion led by Bonnie Prince Charlie. I Kissed Batman will be his first director credit (and he’s very excited about it).
About Our Show
It's Halloween and the Rugby Team are throwing the party of the century. Steph has been working all year to get her nerdy friends invited and they're going to win the costume contest. But little does she know, the gang have other plans. Cass is planning the perfect courtship, her boyfriend Jason is planning a big question, her brother Damian and best friend Tim are planning on revealing a huge confession and nobody got the costume memo. Holy chaos, Batman!
I Kissed Batman is a fast-paced queer comedy about modern sexuality and coming-of-age in the time of the internet.; coming out, hook-ups, STDS and first times.
Why We Need Your Help
Long story short, performing at the Fringe is very expensive and it's only getting pricier and more inaccessible to many smaller artists like ourselves. We are an independently-run grassroots company meaning we don't receive any funding. Every penny spent comes from us.
With your help, we'll be able to bring to life this production we're so passionate about without having to worry about where the money is coming from. Our production costs are estimated to be £2700 including; £1900 for venue costs, £295 for registration fees, and £130 for marketing (flyers, posters etc.), as well as covering sets, props, costumes and insurance. While we hope to make this back in ticket sales, this is never a guarantee. This production is run as an equal profit-share between the full creative team meaning any money made will be returned back to the artists. This also means that there is a possibility of not seeing any financial compensation for their work which they greatly deserve. This is why we have set the target of £3300, meaning we can guarantee payment for our team.
Every little helps, as the saying goes. There is no donation too small and if you can't support financially, sharing this crowd-funder and our social media will also be a massive help.
Help us get our little show achieve greatness!
