As part of a master's project, I Don’t Live Here Anymore is a Glasgow-based short film set to begin production in March 2025.

by Holly King in Glasgow, Glasgow City, United Kingdom

‘I Don’t Live Here Anymore’ is a tender and poignant coming-of-age drama that explores vulnerability, sexuality, and the bittersweet process of letting go. The short film follows two flatmates, Ash and Freya, over the course of a day as they pack up their shared life together - while simultaneously navigating the weight of an unexpected confession from one of them the night before.

How we’ll use the funds:

This film will be created by MA filmmaking students through the University West of Scotland, meaning that you are supporting a student film. This brings many benefits to our production such as support from industry professionals taking on executive producer roles, access to cinema-grade equipment for crew. As expected, there wouldn’t be an assigned budget to this film which is why we’re requesting support for the following:

• Travel

• Catering

• Locations

• Set dressing

• Casting

• Festival Submissions

We aim to create a film which would reach industry standard, showcasing it to various events and festivals. The funds will solely be used to the creation of the film itself where we will provide regular updates to donors throughout the entire production process.

I’m Holly King, a Scottish filmmaker who has spent the last four years studying and developing my craft. I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to elevate this project and utilise my creative vision through any funding alongside my dedicated cast and crew.

At its core, the film is rooted in realism, about connection and vulnerability. It is a personal and honest story reflecting the moments of everyday life that can still be profound. It explores how we navigate modern relationships and our shifting identities as we get older, in relation to those closest to us. I’m deeply passionate about telling this story and capturing the significance of unspoken emotions with nuance and depth, to hopefully connect with audiences and create meaningful conversations. As a young woman, I feel so strongly about representing authentic queer and female characters, portraying their relationships with the complexity and emotional capacity that they deserve. For many women, our connections to one another are among the most impactful and defining of our lives, which I want to honour and represent on screen.

I was drawn to the project through Holly's intent on capturing a story that tells the tale of two friends impacting their long-term relationship and driving it to its end.

Both struggle to face their bond's finale, packing their things and departing. Her choice to balance light-hearted humour with tragedy showed originality and a distinctive voice, persuading me to become part of the project due to my love of working on the latter with unique stories. The image of two flatmates with a past simply packing and being ignorant towards the issue at hand fascinated me. We will create a film that provides the viewer with a bittersweet ending, aiming to premier it through various festivals to gain more awards and recognition for the project. Knowing Holly for under four years now, I've recognised her role in the industry as incredibly diligent and confident; combined with her ability to work excellently with the team, there is no doubt that I and the crew are excited to begin the production process.
