Aim: Establish learning communities to reduce the isolation of studying in prison.
Imagine a world where every individual, regardless of their past, has the opportunity to redefine their future. This vision is at the heart of DWRM's mission to develop transformative learning communities in prisons.
Incarceration is often seen as the end of the road, but for many, it can be the beginning of new opportunities.
When Kieron first entered prison, he had never read a book and only knew about life on the road. But through the power of education and community, he discovered strengths and abilities he could draw on. He started reading books for the first time and was so absorbed by what he discovered that he just could not stop. He has now read 250 books and counting. This led him to decide "I don't even want to be a criminal anymore." And he is now studying for a Masters degree in business.
Kieron's story is not unique. Countless people like him are yearning for a chance to learn, grow, and contribute positively to society. However, the prison system often lacks the resources and support needed to make this transformation possible. That's where we come in.
Our initiative, inspired by feedback from current and formerly incarcerated scholars, aims to establish vibrant learning communities within prisons. Our scholars have shared invaluable insights about the changes they would like to see—more access to education, advocacy, and stronger support networks. We listened, and now we are acting on their recommendations.
Here's how your support can make a difference:
DWRM will provide greater access to :
Advocacy for…
Communication between…
We will build a sense of Community for students who experience the isolation of studying in their cell through regular events in prisons, newsletters and connections with sources of inspiration, encouragement and guidance
Your generous donation will not only fund these essential programs but also give more people like Kieron a chance to say, "I don't even want to be a criminal anymore."
Together, we can break the cycle of crime and incarceration, creating a safer, more compassionate society for all.
Please join us in this vital mission. Your support can change lives, one learning community at a time.
Thank you for sharing our belief in the power of education.
