I am running Leeds Half Marathon and raising money for Women’s Aid. This charity works to support people who have been affected by domestic violence.
Domestic violence is not an isolated incident, it is a wide scale crisis.
1 in 4 women experience domestic violence in their lifetime.
137 women across the world are killed by a member of their own family every day.
Between 20-30% of women will experience physical violence at the hands of an ex-partner/partner during pregnancy, with the likelihood of abuse increasing during pregnancy.
On average, people who have suffered domestic abuse report to the police 2.8 times before getting help.
These are just a few stats to point out the scale and impact of domestic violence. There are more, and many more lived experiences that tell the same story.
