Put compassion at the heart of politics and ensure no one is ever ignored, victimised, or left behind.

by Compassion in Politics in London, England, United Kingdom

We are Compassion in Politics. We are trying to raise £20,000 to fund our campaign to deliver new legal protections against hunger, homelessness, and poverty.

The Covid pandemic has exposed the huge inequalities in our society.

We have seen frontline workers reliant on foodbanks, deprived communities left exposed to the brutality of Covid, and millions now face the prospect of unemployment.

It is time for change.

We must put the compassion and humanity shown by so many during this pandemic into the heart of our politics and build back a land where no one is victimised, ignored, or left behind.

Compassion in Politics is working with politicians across parliament to:

  • Ensure that, in future, everyone is protected from homelessness and hunger
  • Change politics so that it is carried out with compassion, respect, and integrity

We can’t do this without you. We are completely dependent on generous donations from people like you who want to see a better country emerge from the devastation that has been brought by Covid.

Who are we?

Compassion in Politics is a cross-party think-tank dedicated to putting compassion, cooperation, and inclusion at the heart of politics. We were founded by Jennifer Nadel and Matt Hawkins in October 2018. We now work closely with over 50 parliamentarians, academics such as AC  Grayling, Prof Alice Roberts, and Bill McKibben, organisations like Action for Happiness, Show Racism the Red Card, and the Equality Trust. We are supported by a number of public figures including the Dalai Lama, Gillian Anderson, and Ruby Wax. We are a UK registered company.

What have we achieved to date?

  • Alongside Southall Black Sisters, secured accommodation for domestic abuse survivors in London during the Covid lockdown.
  • Established an All-Party Group for Compassionate Politics co-chaired by Debbie Abrahams MP (Labour) and Baroness Warsi (Conservative).
  • Launched a new code of conduct for MPs with the organisation More United. To date, over 100 MPs have now signed up to the code.
  • Ran the #StopTheNastiness campaign during the 2019 general election. Candidates who joined that campaign reported that it helped them detoxify politics in their constituencies.
  • Established Compassion in Politics branches in Spain and Brazil.
  • And more...

What will money raised by this Crowdfunder be used for?

Since October 2018 we have been working with politicians, academics, and charities on a proposal to establish legal protections to stop people falling into poverty, homelessness, and hunger, and to require future governments to work actively to reduce inequality in Britain. The time has come to put all of this work into practice. Success with this crowdfunder will provide us with the resources we need to publicly campaign for the introduction of this proposal, work with our supportive parliamentarians to get it on the statute book, and then oversee its implementation.

Specifically, the money will pay for:

  • Staff time
  • Promotional materials such as campaign films
  • Events in parliament to promote the campaign
  • Any additional research required to prove the case for the introduction of our proposal.
