IT’’S OUR 125TH BIRTHDAY!
The Town Hall is a Grade II listed building in the Conservation Area of the Market Place in Kirton in Lindsey. The original building dates from 1790 when it formed part of the Kirton in Lindsey House of Correction, acting as the Quarter Sessions Hall. The rebuilding of the hall was started to celebrate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee in 1897 and was finished and opened in 1899. The original Trustees and Guarantors of the Hall were local prominent citizens of the time. The Town Hall, built in the Palladian style, must have been a marvellous sight when first completed; further confirming the importance of Kirton in Lindsey at that time. After extensive works, the building was reopened in 2011 by HRH The Earl of Wessex, Queen Victoria’s great, great, great grandson.
So here we are 125 years later and our beautiful building still stands proud in the Market Place, but she is starting to shows signs of wear and tear and being a listed building, nothing is straight forward, or cheap. So, we are hoping that you will help us keep this building going so that it can serve the community for at least another 125 years.
To give you an idea of how you can help, here are just some of the projects that we need to complete:
- Converting all of our lighting in the hall to LED
- Painting all of the external woodwork (windows and doors)
- Repaint of all internal walls
- New storage required for hall and community group’s equipment (due to lack of storage internally)
- Clean and refurbish chairs (260 of them!)
- plus many more minor projects......
If you would like to donate please see details below and if you are able to Gift Aid as well, we would love you to do so, as every penny helps us. Thank you!
