A Short Dark Comedy Film exploring the ways we grieve that can sometimes be a little...different.

by Natalie Hodgins in Surrey, United Kingdom

 New stretch target

This additional money will go towards additional crew and equipment, which will allow us to be more ambitious in the way we tell the story and increase our chances of making it further in the festival circuit.

We'd like to add a gaffer to our camera department so that we can light the space more quickly and efficiently during our one day shoot.

We'd also like to bring in an Production Designer to breathe life into the location and help us to build some of our more complicated props.

Finally, additional funds will make logistics easier, putting money towards those expenses for crew who live further away and rely on public transport.

Sarah brings her new boyfriend home to meet her dad, only to discover an unexpected dinner guest—Dad's new inflatable doll dressed in her late mother’s clothes. As the night unfolds, she and her boyfriend must find a way to help Dad say goodbye and face reality before dessert.

'Friday Night Dinner' meets 'Lars and the Real Girl' in this British dark comedy micro-short film.

"McDonald as Man Billy brought a powerful physicality which easily slipped from boyish to sinister in his character's darker moments." (A Youngish Perspective, SALT)

"Mylo McDonald is a wonderful Alsemero – seemingly noble and loyal, but underneath burning with rage." (Fairy Powered Productions, The Changeling)

"Easily the most impressive performance is that of Mylo McDonald. His scenes are brimming with tension." (Get The Chance, Looking Good Dead)

*UPDATE*

Thank you for helping us to reach our target of £500! This will go towards meals and covering cast and crew expenses so that no-one is out of pocket, divided up equally so that everyone gets paid the same amount It will also cover miscellaneous equipment costs such as tapes and radios.

To keep costs low, we are keeping this project to one filming day with a crew of 6 people (plus our cast) and kit that we already own.

Here is a breakdown of costs, the below numbers are in Great British Pounds.

1742396186_how_not_to_bury_yout_mother_(9).png

There are so many more costs associated with making a film and getting it seen, and you have helped us guarantee that we can get this made. Any additional funds we receive will be put directly into the film, here are just some of the things we could include:

Catering
Kit Hire
Festival Fees
Costume Purchase / Hire
Production Design & Props

We'd also like the opportunity to organise a screening event to promote independent short films around the themes of grief, to open up a conversation about how we can change the way we talk about death and share the types of support that exists through charities.
