In 2024 our veterans charity in Liverpool, The Block Armed Forces Foundation helped 45 homeless ex forces veterans by providing emergency accommodation and specialist support including clinical mental health and addiction referrals.
This year 2025 has started with a similar pattern and it is expected that we will reach similar numbers through the months of 2025.
On average the charity uses around £800 - £900+ in the first month of helping a single homeless veteran of the armed forces, an immediate action plan can often involve some nights stay in a hotel / bed and Breckfast before securing a more permanent accommodation setting. Many have complex post traumatic disorders, and have been street homeless for some time before they choose to accept the support. The charity also provides basic needs such as food, clothes, mobile phone top up and transport.
Our charity has to be ready to deliver this type of high level support but with a reduction in funding this year and with still no local authority council funding towards this work the charity is now asking the crowding public to help it house 45 homeless ex forces veterans in 2025
The charity holds a drop in and advice centre for local homeless armed forces veterans to attend and get access to support, in April 2025 the office temporarily closed due to a lack of funding, the drop in centre has supported over 1400 people from the armed forces community since 2023 it has become a vital support service for homeless ex forces veterans in Liverpool and the North West of England Merseyside.
