Aim: Help My Mum Replace Her Broken Fridge Freezer Anything you can give, big or small, will make a difference

Hi everyone,

I never thought I’d be writing something like this, but I’m trying to raise a bit of support for my mum who’s going through a really rough time right now.

Her fridge freezer completely broke down overnight—literally the day after she’d done a big food shop—and everything she’d bought has had to go in the bin. We’ve been trying to find cheap second-hand ones on Facebook Marketplace, but with no way of delivering it and worries about getting scammed, it's just not been working out. She even went into Currys this morning but the APR for finance was sky-high.

We’re hoping to raise £300 to help replace it with something reliable, so she can go back to batch cooking and managing meals like she normally does.

My mum’s not working at the moment—she’s been signed off sick after years of working with kids with behavioural needs. It really took a toll on her mental health, and alongside that, she lives with fibromyalgia, which makes daily life painful and unpredictable. She’s been in therapy for the past year and doing her best to get better, but right now she’s living off low-rate PIP and UC, which barely covers her rent and bills.

She also looks after her brother (my uncle), who has severe mental health issues, because no one else in the family will step in. I can see the strain it puts on her every day, and now this broken fridge is just another stress that she really didn’t need.

She lives with my younger sister, who’s autistic and very selective with food. My mum has to cook separate meals for her, and not having proper fridge or freezer space is just making everything 10x harder. She’s already juggling so much, and with her conditions, added stress often leads to worse flare-ups.

If you’re able to help in any way—even just a few pounds or by sharing this—it would mean the absolute world to us. This isn’t just about a fridge freezer. It’s about helping a woman who gives so much to everyone else, finally get a bit of help in return.
