Home-Start Portsmouth offers a unique service to parents (with at least one child under school age) through the provision of trained and supervised volunteers who visit families in their own home and through professionally run family groups both of which offer regular, informal support, friendship and practical help.

Home-Start Portsmouth are committed to support thousands of families in the city. A part of a nationwide network over the UK and abroad, we all share the same vision that every parent has the support they need to give their children the best start in life.
We exist to enable parents to be the best they can be by offering emotional and practical help through trained volunteers, both in family homes and out in the community.
Volunteers, who are often parents themselves, are trained and supported by experienced coordinators who are there to guide and advise them throughout.
Family life with young children can be difficult and stressful at times, and after the pandemic, families face even more challenges.
Post pandemic financial, practical and emotional struggles are paramount more than ever before.
We are seeing more parents needing support because they are struggling with Loneliness & Isolation, Mental health & Wellbeing, Housing & Financial issues and Nurturing bonds with their child.
Along with the most recent Universal Credit cuts, our families face challenges like never before. Choosing between food and heating should not be the norm this winter!
