On 27 January 2025, it will be Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) the day which encourages remembrance in a world scarred by prejudice and systematic, targeted persecution. This year will be the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau and the 30th anniversary of the genocide in Bosnia.
THE DAY
Our event includes 2 keynote speakers (such as a Holocaust survivor), local speakers and a range of community organisations gathering to remember the victims and survivors of the Holocaust, of Nazi persecution, and of genocides in Cambodia, Bosnia, Rwanda and Darfur.
Holocaust Memorial Day is a day for education, commemoration and reflection: to think deeply about what happened to countless individuals, and how small actions escalated to acts of organised hate crime and, ultimately, genocide.
HOW ARE YOUR DONATIONS USED?
All funds raised go towards to the day itself and if any funds are left over are reserved for the next years event. The ceremony is completely community funded and run by volunteers. we rely solely on donations to fund all aspects of the day from speakers, venue hire, advertising to educational resources. Our speakers and topics/themes are from a variety of backgrounds, reflecting the global nature that past atrocities have affected.
