So let’s start with a bit about me…
I’m a qualified person centered counsellor a mum a wife and many things in between. I’ve spent the last two decades working in some sort of social care whether that be with trauma and abuse survivors, young people, young offenders or charities. I qualified as a counsellor what feels like many moons ago in 2009. I’ve came and went from private practice and back into charities over the years. The big one for me is always making sure my work is my vocation a real chance to support people to make meaningful difference in their life. Re- entering private practice as a counsellor my dream of reaching a handful of clients a week has grown just a bit…
Here’s the dream Holistic House!
I want to create a space that is both warm welcoming and comfortable and most importantly not clinical for clients and practitioners. I’ve spent years providing therapy in uncomfortable chairs or next to Formica table tops with angry overhead lighting, and I always find myself thinking of this doesn’t feel right for me it sure as hell doesn’t feel right for my clients who are already in the vulnerable hot (and mostly uncomfortable) seat!
As well as creating this space for me and my clients I want to be able to extend this to other wellness practitioners. It will be a place with low cost rent, meaning our clients aren’t hit with increased fees for therapy, simple booking systems and a community of other practitioners all able to provide support to one another whether that be in resources, time, a cuppa and a cry after a tough day this is a space where we can say “we got you”!
How’s it all going, honestly slowly!!! We’ve found the premises and it’s great small tucked away discreet but very accessible. It’s got the potential to be divided up into two spaces, one for talking therapies or one to one yoga and mindfulness and a secondary space for more hands on holistic therapies such as reiki and massage.
The input we need isn’t high, it’s start up. We want it nice not the standard second hand chucked together with what we can get. We want our clients to walk in and feel valued in the space we have created for them. Comfortable seats, warm lighting, plenty soft furnishing and textures. Hell let’s go crazy and chuck some nice pictures on the wall instead of the service provision posters we see in our clinical environments! Something that makes our clients feel like their being held in you’re living room and it’s ok to do what they need to recover in a beautiful environment that they deserve!
