High Hopes For Halliwell-Being

Our aims are to create new opportunities, improve quality of life and strengthen community for the people living in Halliwell and surrounding areas of Bolton. There are long-standing issues in this deprived area related to low aspirations, high unemployment, drug and alcohol abuse, anti-social behaviour and health issues.

We provide a diverse range of activities and opportunities, so people feel connected to others, their peers, and other generations. We want people to feel a sense of belonging and pride in their area, knowing that they are valued and can contribute to their community through volunteering, supporting events and getting involved in groups and activities.

We deliver:

Parent & toddler group

Chair Yoga, chai and chat: men and women over the age of 50 attend.

Thursday Friends

Walking group

We also have our local PCSO’s that come and use the building when they need to write up any incidents that have happened in the area, this saves them time so they don’t have to travel back to the station.

We organise quiz nights, concerts, Christmas and Summer fayres. Coach trips or local trips out.

Some feedback from our service users (Friends)

"I was going through a bit of a bad patch in my life before I found the Creative Writing Course at the centre. Starting the course has given me a focus, something to look forward to each week."

"Before I started coming to St Paul's, I had mental health and anxiety, in just the short time I've been coming it's helped me alot and gets me out of the house to interact with some lovely and kind people"

"Having just moved into the Community Centre as a user of the Chair Yoga group. I have found it to be a very welcoming and safe environment, great care is given to Covid advise. It has opened opportunities to join in other activities: coach trips, organised walks, , various classes, just what the area needs. Thank you"
