To highlight the history beneath our feet through the fossil heritage of the south coast, introducing people to science all around them.

by Dr Neil Gostling in Southampton, United Kingdom

Over the last 5 years my lab has described dinosaurs and fossils from the south coast of the UK.  We have named 3 species of dinosaur, and and described many other prehistoric beasts!

Dinosaurs are often the gateway that children have into Science, and it is vital for the world that we have good scientists.  Sadly, Southampton, Portsmouth, Hampshire more widely, the Isle of Wight and Dorset have some of the lowest educational outcomes in the country!  We want to change this by enthusing people with a love of science from an early age and providing families, with members of all ages, with opportunities to talk about some of the most exciting animals that have ever existed.

Producing life size replicas of Jurassic sea-monsters, Cretaceous dinosaurs, and reptiles and mammals from the last 40 million years, all the way to the ice age with mammoths and human artefacts we will showcase 5 stories, Jurassic Seas, Cretaceous Dinosaurs, Chalk Seas, Tropical Hampshire and The Ice Age, we will tell the story of the very ground we are walking on Hidden in Stone: 200 Million Years of South Coast Fossils, all around a centrepiece of the first ever life-size replica of the south's very own spinosaur, Ceratosuchops!

Got an idea like this?

Over £200 million has been raised from our crowd to support the projects they love! Plus tens of millions more unlocked by our partners.
