Hi, Mum is a play about death, grief, and turbulent family relations employing Scotland-based artists and paying them fair (Equity) rates.

Introductions

My name is Tamara Al-Bassam and I am a death doula and writer based in Edinburgh.

I am teaming up with Pierrot Productions to debut a new play about death, grief, and turbulent family relations.

The Show

The aim of this show is to bring death into public discourse to destigmatize the subject. The show focuses heavily on the difficulty of two daughters saying goodbye to their mother in a funeral home viewing parlour.

Your kind donations will go towards paying our artists fairly and making the show as accessible as possible to audiences.

Local Artists

We are employing local artists, and will be paying them Equity rates because we firmly believe this should be a standard artists should expect for their work.

Our artists include a highly talented cast of two, an outstanding director, and a wood carver who is creating a puppet to portray the titular Mum.

Accessibility

We are fortunate enough to be in the Fern Studio, an accessible venue provided by Greenside. If we can get the funding, we would also seek an artist to design a soundscape for blind/visually impaired artists to be able to experience the show. We would also be using your funds to hire a live captioner to make the show accessible to D/deaf audiences. Of we have enough, we would be keen to look into fidget devices for audiences - which could come in handy for anyone with even a mild discomfort about the subject who want to attend.
