Help Harry Help Others (HHHO) is a cancer support charity deeply rooted in lived experience. Founded in memory of my son Harry, who was just 11 when he passed away from cancer, HHHO has grown into a beacon of support for adults and children facing cancer across the Midlands. At our Drop-In Cancer Support Centre, we provide immediate, empathetic support, offering a comprehensive range of emotional, practical, and financial services to those in need.

Together with a dedicated team of four, I oversee the charities evolvement, ensuring that we continue Harry’s legacy by making sure no one faces cancer alone. Our work is driven by the understanding that cancer not only devastates health but also personal finances. Today, as families grapple with the economic impact of a cancer diagnosis—exacerbated by the cost of living crisis—our mission has never been more critical.

Our vision is to expand our financial support services to meet the growing needs of over 1,500 service users and the broader cancer community in the Midlands. With your support, we aim to introduce new programs like:

  • Educational Workshops: Teach money management and budgeting skills.
  • Cosy Cafes: Offer a warm, welcoming space where those affected by cancer can enjoy a nutritious meal and learn cost-effective, healthy cooking practices. This initiative will also provide a social setting to reduce isolation, using our resources to save on their home energy costs.
  • Enhanced Financial Counselling: Expand our existing services to include more comprehensive benefits advice, debt management, housing, and council tax support. We will offer these services both one-on-one for privacy and in group settings to foster community support.

Funding from Aviva would enable the establishment of regular 'Cosy Cafes' and a series of topical workshops designed to educate and assist our community in navigating their financial challenges. It would also support the provision of free, nutritious meals and the resources needed to conduct these workshops, including materials and  speakers.

Your contribution will directly empower individuals and families to manage the financial strain of cancer more effectively, ensuring they have access to the support they need when they need it most. Together, we can make a substantial difference in the lives of those affected by cancer, providing them not just with support, but with the tools for resilience and independence during their most challenging times
