MAPO is a clothing brand focused on the use of 100% Organic Hemp.
Let’s get one thing straight…Hemp is Marijuana’s sober cousin. Although the plants may look similar to an untrained eye, they have very different appearances and properties.
The hemp plant is much taller and has no psychoactive elements. Hemp plants can grow up to 20ft, providing oils that can be used in medicines and fibres used in clothing, paper and ropes.
Hemp Vs Cotton-
- Hemp produces twice more fibre per acre than cotton
- Hemp uses a third less water than cotton
- Hemp requires no pesticides, whereas cotton accounts for 25% of all pesticides used.
This is good news for farmers and the environment! Hemp plants also provides nutrients to the soil, restoring the areas ecosystem.
MAPO only uses socially and environmentally responsibly sourced materials through organic farming practices in the Himalayas.
Hemp’s use and sustainability has been known across the world for thousands of years (found in pottery in Taiwan, originating from 8000AD) but with the stigma and misinformation surrounding Hemp, it is currently less popular than cotton.
This beautiful magical product has a significant role to play in sustainability in the textile industry. Hemp fibres are incredibly versatile, soft and get softer with each wash. It is a lighter fabric than organic cotton. Naturally industrial hemp clothing, provides UV protection, is hypo-allergenic, antibacterial and is soft on your skin.
MAPO seeks to provide consumers with ethical clothing, so you know its sustainability journey.
MAPO clothing items costs more than its cotton counterpart because of the use of organic raw materials which are economically equitable for those part of our production chain; From the Himalayan farmers, the social enterprising women bringing wealth back to their villages to the reduced carbon footprint of shipping MAPO cargo by sea.
