Left despondent and peripheral by the music industry we're having to fund our debut album in good ol' Do-It-Yourself fashion and have now resorted to begging for these remaining funds. Volk Soup has always paid for itself up to now. Playing shows and selling merch has been the sole financial contributor to us going into the studio, travelling to shows, paying for petrol and practicing (when we manage it). But times are tough and Volk Soup isn't currently paying for itself in the same manner as say, Taylor Swift's music might. As a result we cannot afford to finish paying for the album in the foreseeable and now the time has come to hold out our hands imploringly.
Last April we recorded our debut album '10p Jazz'. The songs were recorded in just four days but many many more have passed since then and we are still yet to pay our wonderful producer in full for all his hard work. We still need to master the album and hopefully produce a physical version of the album in some form or other. As you may have guessed there's other bureaucratic bumph that goes along with the releasing of the album such as PR, upload fees and whatnot, these too would hopefully be covered with any funds we may receive. I've set a marker of £1000. Hopefully we don't need that much but anything extra will go towards funding touring of the album plus, you will be reimbursed for your contributions (in things).
Now, I hear you: "What do I actually get for my money other than an album full of material I've been hearing live for two years?". Well, the main offering for your charity will be a CD of unreleased music including live favourite 'I've Got a Plan' and Tammy Wynette homage 'Don't Stand By Your Man' as well as remixes, demos and sundry other sub-species of song. The CD is entitled 'Unmastered and Commando: B-Sides', Remixes and Rarities of the Cruel (a catchy title, I know). Each CD bears a unique typography and is encased in individually designed artwork. This needed more effort than the nadir of Volk Soup should reasonably require but know that they are, above all else, Limited Edition Collector's Items (no marker of quality necessary). This is a baseline reward/ incentive/ bribe (whatever you choose to name it) that will require the minimum donation of £10 (lesser donations are welcome but I cannot feasibly give you anything in return). It is important to think of this less as buying a homemade CD for a tenner and more that this is what we offer you in gratitude for the donation which you so kindly offered us so that we can release our REAL album. (I understand you're now donating a fair amount of time to my self-indulgent writing too, but we continue apace).
We also still have a few vinyl copies of 'Incompetent Hits' which will require a £20 donation but will include the 'Unmastered and Commando ' CD. Various artworks are also up for grabs at a range of prices (can you see how they've reduced me to sale-speak?). If you want to buy a T-Shirt or any digital music please go straight to our bandcamp and consider that a donation.
I'm sorry if I've taken up too much of your time and appreciate if the spiel has put you off entirely from giving to someone so prone to waffle. Rest assured our debut album WILL be out this year, but we do sincerely need some help with our venture. Any small amount donated will mean a great deal to us and we intend to give back any generosity with appreciation, a healthy dose of shame and potentially a CD (£10)
With all the love we have to give thank you,
Volk Soup
