Like many others the Covid 19 Pandemic hit us hard and severely disrupted our services.
We were determined to provide activities to our young people even if we couldn’t do it in person – during lockdown periods where we were unable to meet with our young people face to face we delivered over 300 free online sessions providing an outlet for creativity and to keep people working together through a tough period.
Our studio which has been the location of so much creative work and a building that was so often filled with laughter and smiles sadly became little more than storage space.
Now the world is opening again and that’s what we want to do too!
Our studio was made in a way that provided a safe, closed and soundproofed area for young people to express themselves through music – as much freedom this space gave ironically in a post-covid world this same design would make it unusable. So, we like many others must adapt. We are opening up our space (literally!) by reopening a closed off and sealed window to provide essential ventilation to make the space useable again. We also want to revamp the space which has become tired through its lack of use and make it a welcoming and creative space for our young people to call their own once again!
We are seeking your help to do so – please help us with our Crowdfunder to reopen our studio and give it back to the young people who loved it so much before and to the next generation of DD8’ers waiting to unleash their creativity on us all!
All funds raised will go to revamping and reopening our studio and any excess will go towards running costs to keep it open and to deliver new activities to our local young people and the wider community.
“Anytime we jammed together it felt like a family and there were no dramas in the world. It just took everything in the real world aside for however long, to just enjoy ourselves and be together as a big family”
“It’s super important to have that space! Being able to rehearse there and having our workers and volunteers there to give advice or listen to what you’re working on at any time is awesome. It’s also very important to get some jam time in with others - good learning experience! ????”
““The DD8 space meant heaps to me because it helped me get through a lot, get over my nerves, and get started into music”
““It got me through tough times and helped me push away all kind of drama in my life for a couple hours to just play music or even just talk with the people around me”
“DD8 Music has not only developed myself as a person socially, but the organisation has offered a wide range of youth activities to get involved in which has benefitted my well-being overall.”
