The additional money will go towards more safety equipment to help us run more activities, more frequently.  This will help more of our members to access activities safely and inclusively, to improve their social, physical and mental wellbeing, reduce isolation and provide respite to parents, families and carers.

Help bring us back together again and leave lockdown safely

This video was sent to us by one of our members in April 6 weeks into lockdown.

We are seeking donations to purchase PPE equipment to restart our activities which have been severely impacted and restricted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Supported Activities Programme is a charity based in North Hertfordshire (charity number 1050948).

We offer a wide and varied programme usually 2-3 activities a week including sport, leisure, and social activities for adults with learning disabilities, making use of community facilities (such as running our Knitting & Sewing group in a coffee shop).

Our activities assist members to learn new skills, develop confidence, increase  self-esteem and improve well being.   Social isolation is greatly reduced by building a social network where members support each other and develop friendships.

Our charity is often regarded as a ‘lifeline’ to members and their families, facilitating inclusion in community life they may otherwise not experience as well as offering respite.

Supported Activities makes a difference

This was the response we got, when we asked a parent to provide a reference for a grant application:

Supported Activities Programme

Hello

I would like to endorse the amazing work of the above named charity organisation.

Our son is 30 years old and suffers from a lifelong learning disability, Fragile X Syndrome and Autism with associated behavioural issues. His difficulties are challenging in many ways, including his inability to access appropriate social activities and meet friends. Without the help of the Supported Activities group, our son, along with many other disability challenged individuals, would not get the chance to enjoy some of the social activities they do, including an annual weeks holiday which enables my wife and I some much needed respite.

The charity is managed with the highest level of financial integrity and run in a very professional way by a group of selfless, dedicated and caring volunteers. We have the highest regard for this charity and I know everybody connected with this group feels the same way and on there behalf, I would ask that you look favourably on the application that has been presented to you. The world would be a very lonely place for individuals who depend on the Supported Activities Programme if it wasn't able to continue to provide the amazing support it does.

Lockdown has meant people have had to stay at home, and gradually as it eases some have been able to meet with one or two of their friends.  To minimise isolation Supported Activities has been running activities on Zoom and WhatsApp groups.  Now, we want to bring people together again, our members and volunteers are READY!
