Support The Great Divinator in his quest to perform at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2025!

by Katie Tranter in South Croydon, Greater London, United Kingdom

Hi! I'm Katie and I've been performing and making theatre for the last 15 years.

During that time I've toured all over the UK and sometimes further doing theatre in education, community arts, rural touring, street theatre, pantomime, family theatre - you name it I've done it.

I've done commedia and mask work in Spain, played an accordion down a mine and puppeteered real vegetables. Philippe Gaulier has told me to get in the bin and the casting director for Cirque Du Soleil told me I have a 'good face' (but didn't give me a job because 'they don't work with many female clowns'. I've performed at the Royal Albert Hall, been a creature on Doctor Who and recently worked with Jim Carrey on Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

Last year I made the decision to start working on my first solo show: The Great Divinator - Touched by Spirits.

Many of you were very kind in supporting me to help get the show off the ground.

In May 2024 I attended Jamie C Wood's Creation Week Residency at Bidston Observatory in Liverpool where I began to explore the character. Then I worked with the brilliant Scott Penrose (President of the Magic Circle 2015-2019, Derren Brown's Svengali, Enigma, An Evening of Wonders).

I then started performing at cabarets and scratch nights to try out material and hone it in front of an audience. The Bureau of Silly Ideas in Brixton, in particular, supported this process immensely.

In July I did a research and development week at Woolwich Creation Space with artists Robyn Hambrook, Conrad Sharp and Matthew Nicholson to start putting together a rough structure for the show.

In August I performed a work-in-progress version of the show twice at The Museum of Comedy as part of Camden Fringe Festival and received some great and useful feedback.

Edinburgh Fringe is the biggest arts festival in the world and is an opportunity to showcase my creation in for press, industry and an international audience.

If you'd like to support me in taking my show to Edinburgh Fringe  please considering chipping in the price of a pint or a coffee (or more if you're doing well and feeling generous!)

There are some great rewards on offer including exclusive ticket deals, limited edition art work and magical experiences.

What the press say about Katie:
