What do The Spice Girls, The Prodigy, Signature Brew beer and Europe’s biggest Vinyl distributor all have in common?

Strongroom is a 35-year old independent music complex home to 12 recording studios, 8 offices, alternative late-night venue / bar and restaurant. The community is housed in a former industrial warehouse-come-vibrant-sanctuary, draped in ivy-covered walls in an open air courtyard. Producing and releasing records since 1985, Strongroom music studios has contributed legendary records to the world such as The Prodigy’s ‘Fat of The Land’, Spiritualized’s ‘Ladies & Gentlemen, We Are Floating In Space’ and of course ‘SPICE’ by The Spice Girls. 

By 1997 Strongroom had grown into all areas of the warehouse space, and opened the Strongroom Bar, serving pints to the thirsty denizens of the studios. We continued to grow and evolve up to present day, with our bar becoming an active independent live music venue, hosting regular nights featuring up-and-coming indie acts and larger signed artists alike. Shoreditch is an entirely different beast, but we remain fiercely independent. Run by a small, close-knit team and surrounded by an inspiring group of creative businesses, we aim to keep the spirit of collaboration and community alive.

As a community of businesses, producers and general public gathering together around the bar and courtyard, we have been deeply affected by the COVID-19 crisis. We have up to 40 members of staff for a 300 capacity venue, a team of sound engineers serving four commercial public-access studios, resident producers and office workers, all of which will now be at risk or are already self-isolating. Given the severity of this global health crisis we made the difficult decision to protect our community by pausing trade for a period of time. The government has now also mandated all bars close, so we are left facing a massive loss in business.
