In 2019, I began the first steps of coming out as transgender, after years of feeling sure something was off, but having no clear sense of what it was. In 2021, I joined the waiting list to access gender-affirming care through the NHS, which is currently on average expected to be 7+ years, but could in reality be much longer.
As of November 2024, I have managed to navigate the complicated, frustrating system of accessing care through the NHS, and have been prescribed hormones for HRT (hormone replacement therapy).
The final hurdle for me before taking this medication I've waited a long time to access is to freeze my sperm. As much as I question whether it's right to bring a child into the current climate, I do very much want to have the option in future to have children. Once you start taking hormones as a MTF (male to female) transsexual, you risk being completely sterile, therefore it is advised to freeze your gametes before you begin a course of medication.
Raising the funds to do this will mean I can finally begin the course of treatment I desperately need to feel at home in my own skin, and connect with life and the world as fully and authentically as I want to.
