Since Poppy was diagnosed with Rett syndrome almost 3 years ago we have tried to make our home accessible so she can live her best life, be safe and able to keep as much of her independence as possible.
Unfortunately the bathroom has become increasingly dangerous for her and difficult for us to make safe so we have contacted social services through our borough 3 times now. The first time, in our old house, the delivered a bath chair which didn’t fit into our narrow bathroom. Then, we moved and got referred again but COVID happened and we never got anywhere. Then, the social worker on our case quit a couple months ago and we were then discharged without having made any progress. We made another referral in June and have been told the list is so long we would be contacted soon when someone would be affected to our case … 3 months on still nothing.
Poppy is becoming bigger and also weaker and this situation cannot last any longer. Her needs have increased and we have used all the resources in our power but think it’s time to take matters in our own hands.
If you have any pennies to spare we would be so grateful! Thank you
