Our Plan -
To finally put the nine songs of 'Cheer' into a listenable and danceable format, we plan to escape to the bountiful oasis that is Carmarthen. Five days beneath the boughs of Red Kite Studios to expunge the impurities within and become like Pusyë, normal.
We also want to whisk away two others, someone who can film the entire thing and someone to help us record and make sure we aren't being idiots.
Our accountant, Pusyë, says this expedition will cost the grande totallé of £3000. An absolutely unfathomable amount of money. This is why we ask for your help, a call to arms, we have half of the money for the deposit on the studio from grafting our toes off gigging, selling; merch, vinyl, and our souls to druids and others behind trees and clouds.
‘Cheer!’ Is a concept album surrounding a drug dealer with nasty intentions and a poor soul that gets sucked deep into it all. This was just a horror story our bodies were wanting to explore and we had great fun with it. This album is dark / nasty at times but also pretty / hopeful in others. This release will be the last concept album we do for a while as we are itching to start working with less restrictions.
We have been crafting this release for a good while now - testing the songs live and changing parts naturally through that process has become valuable for us and these songs and this concept are sat down deep in our bellies. As a band we are so stoked and proud with this project that we could implode at any moment, join us people, let’s do this, make something no one has before.
The Story of Monet -
We are Monet and we formed through a love of strange ideas of music, a passion for performance as art, and we are basically a family thanks to our friendships. April 2021 we started writing. After messing around with electronic loops for a while, our bodies started writing jazz infused genre bending post-punk. We flew with the inspiration found through this and wrote our first album, a concept titled ‘Locminé’. After producing this release ourselves and getting it out there we started gigging a terrible amount in our home place of Swansea, then our second home of Cardiff, and homes away from home London and Bristol. Sending love to all the venues who have allowed us to work on our craft (Welsh crazy fuckheads Elysium, bunkhouse, clwb and porters all have our hearts).
As a band we never stop writing music so our second release ‘Walking My Dead Fish’ was written for a friend’s masters degree and released quickly after ‘Locminé’. ‘You Need To Tell Worse Lies Man’ was written in between our dear boy Max departing the band and Ciggy Butts joining. Our latest release was our EP ‘Albasore’ recorded and mixed by our good pal Alex Miller at his studio, and Pusyë mastered it, fed it up like a bird anxious for cooking. The reception we got from this release was incredible, lovely, and awfully valuable to us. Ever since we finished ‘Locminé’ though we have been working on our second album ‘Cheer!’. We cannot wait to bash this out for the masses.
We have had the pleasure of gigging everywhere and getting to stink a lot of places up; Battering Swansea Arena for Music Venue Trust, playing The Windmill, headlining Old Blue Last, opening Clwb Ifor Bach’s new downstairs stage, getting to support bands such as; Folly Group, Gaffa Tape Sandy, man/woman/chainsaw, John, Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard as well as gigging with so many class, hot hot bands, getting our music out on vinyl thanks to R*E*P*E*A*T Records and forming such a great relationship with Rosey!
Everything we do we put 100% into it, we are asking you for help now for us to push this to the next step, record this with justice, love, and get it out into the world for all the lovers of psychotic creatures of music. We are Monet and these sounds are for you.
Some lovely words from some humans:
“So much to love, noisy and angular and unpredictable, yet also incredibly moreishly melodic, honey-tinged somehow.”
Adam Walton, BBC Introducing.
“They make Idles sound like Selena Gomez.”
Adam Walton, BBC Introducing.
“Monet are fast becoming the enfant terrible’s of the Cardiff and South Wales music scene. The four piece play a manic brand of experimental rock, within which you can hear a heady combination of eccentric influences.”
Clash Magazine.
“Monet create the kind of aural chaos not seen around these parts since early Mclusky.
Bill Cummings, God Is In The TV.
Lots of love,
Monet
