My Journey to Selahh Official
My name is Alisha Abdul, and I am a 22-year-old designer and entrepreneur of Eritrean, Nigerian, and Swedish heritage. My journey has been far from easy. Raised by a single mother struggling with mental health challenges, I had to become independent at a young age. Through it all, fashion became my escape—I expressed myself through designing, sketching, and creating, seeing fashion as an art form rather than just clothing.
At 14, I started working, saving every penny with the belief that my future would be bright. However, as I grew older, I faced my own struggles with mental health and addiction, forcing me to drop out of my first college. Despite this, I found my way back to my passion at a new school, where I deepened my love for fashion and art. Though I graduated with just a pass, I refused to let setbacks define me.
I was later offered a place at Ravensbourne University to study business, but the experience was toxic—unsupportive lecturers and a harsh environment made me leave. I didn’t give up; instead, I secured a spot at the Fashion Retail Academy, one of London’s most prestigious fashion institutions. Against the odds, I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management for Fashion.
A year ago, I took a leap of faith—I quit my receptionist job after years of working tirelessly since 14. I could no longer trade my time and energy for unfulfilling work. Instead, I committed myself fully to building Selahh Official. I have saved as much as I can, but launching a mid-luxury modest wear brand requires substantial funding.
