Did you know that less than 6% of authors are Black? And even fewer in the fantasy genre?
I’ve recently completed my first manuscript, but I'm facing numerous challenges getting it published and into bookstores. The journey to finding an agent or a publisher willing to invest in new authors is tough, and the market is saturated. For someone like me—Black, gay, an immigrant, and from a low-income background—it’s even harder to break through. The obstacles we face in the publishing world are immense, but I’m determined to get my story out there.
That’s why I’m reaching out for your support. I’m raising funds to sign a contract with a hybrid publisher, and with your help, I can take the next step toward making my dream a reality.
If you’re unable to contribute financially, sharing my story or taking a moment to read about the struggles diverse authors face in the industry would mean the world to me. Here’s an insightful article from The New York Times that explains why it’s so difficult for voices like mine to be heard: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/12/11/opinion/culture/diversity-publishing-industry.html
Thank you so much for your time and support!
