Aim: After being found guilty of conspiracy to cause a public nuisance I have been handed a £500 fine that I am unable to pay myself!
In November 2022 I was arrested for conspiracy to cause a public nuisance, after being stopped in a car near the M25, on my way to climb up a gantry, as part of Just Stop Oil's gantry climbing campaign.
In April 2025 I was found guilty by a jury, with a majority verdict 10-2, and was sentenced in May. Surprisingly I was not sent to prison, but was instead given a suspended sentence, 150 hours unpaid work and a fine.
The judge reduced the fine from the initial over £4000 asked for by the prosecution, to reflect the fact that I have no assets and have been unable to find a job since coming out of prison in February this year. But still, I do not have any disposable money to pay the £500 fine and just paying the £30 a month requested by the judge will put a financial strain on me.
It would be a huge help to me if you can donate any small amount to help me with this fine. I know that there are many people being sentenced at the moment, and needing help paying court fines, so I recognise this may be difficult. I am hoping that as this is not a huge fine, if people are able to chip in just a tiny amount we may be able to cover it easily!
Any money raised above the £500 fine will be donated to the Climate Action Support Pathway, who provide free legal advice and support to those taking climate action.
